Welcome, Zara Mahomedali as Quantum Connect Partner, Africa!
Zara joins Quantum Connect, focussing on building and developing our footprint in the African market, offering Executive Search solutions. With experience working in the UK and Mozambique in the Oil and Gas industry. We’re excited to have Zara on board.
Here’s what Zara had to say when we discussed her experience and her plans with Quantum Connect.
Can you tell me about your background and experience?
Having graduated in the UK at the Westminster University in Social Sciences, (Major in Psychology and Minor in Criminology), my early career started in the UK within retail, before returning to Portugal, where I continued may career in retail as an area manager, responsible for the centre and south of Portugal, managing 8 stores.
When a situation arose in Mozambique (North-Pemba) to establish myself in HR, I leapt at the opportunity. This ultimately set me on a consultancy career path working as a Business Partner recruiting at the mid-senior level across the Mine and Coal industry, Transport and Equipment, Services, factories, construction, NGO´S, and Health.
Having established myself across our chosen industry sectors as a Business Partner of choice, along with two colleagues, the next logical step was to establish our own business, providing a range of services from recruitment, business consultancy, to assessments, training, and outsourcing, all within the Oil and Gas Industry.
Can you tell me about your role at Quantum?
Within my role at Quantum, I will be focusing on developing business opportunity and footprint within the African market, specifically offering Executive Search solutions. I see this as an opportunity for African professionals who might want an opportunity to work outside the African continent as well.
What attracted you to this role at Quantum?
A main attraction for me to join Quantum is that I have always aspired to focus on delivering executive search solutions across my industry specialism, Oil and Gas. It is the next logical step in my career and there is a gap in the market to deliver premium solutions. I also relish the challenge of bringing best practice search methodology to Africa, where this will be my key USP and value proposition. Africa has a very specific way of doing things, and there is a great opportunity to bring European Best Practice Search Methodology to the African continent.
What is your career highlight to date?
The highlight of my career was creating, launching and establishing my own company within a very competitive market. Furthermore, I am proud of the successes that it has bought to my clients, candidates and, of course, myself and business partner.
Most difficult placement?
The most difficult placement was when I was engaged to recruit an Airport Manager for Harrods International. It was a large team and I had to manage and lead several individuals of all levels and abilities. I was very young and still “raw” for a managerial role with such amount of responsibility; however, I was successful, making the right decisions for the company in the face of challenges that always present themselves within a transformational environment.
Thank you for your time, Zara. We’re excited to have you on the team!
